First off, I want to thank everyone who participated in our recent auctions. You, and my accountant (who just told me how much I'm getting back from the government), make this post possible.

I have just ordered my new computer [dell.com] from Dell.

Check out these stats:
  • 3.06Ghz Pentium IV
  • 200 gig Hard Drive w/ 8meg cache
  • 1.5 gigs of Rambus 1066 RDRAM
  • DVD Burner
  • 18.1 in 1800FP Dell Ultrasharp Digital Flat Panel Display
  • 128mb DDR ATI Radeon™ 9700 Pro Graphics Card
  • SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 Digital Sound Card
  • Altec Lansing THX Certified ADA995 Surround Sound 5.1 Speaker System
Oh, I am a happy boy today. Is it here yet? Is it here yet?

You didn't tell us any of the important stuff.

What color is it?

Sweet Zombie Jesus, would you look at that thing. I think I'd be afraid that it would rise up in the night and strangle me in my sleep.

3,000 bucks just from selling some drawings? Wow. Who knew. It's probably good that you stopped though. Wouldn't want to flood the market. Keep `em rare.

I too am spending my tax return on a new computer, though I'm building it myself. It's cheaper that way if you know what you're doing. Plus, it's fun.

200 gigabytes...wow. I'd say that you won't be able to fill that for years, but I managed to fill 110gb on my own computer, so I guess it's possible.

I didn't come close to making $3,000. Most of the money if from tax refunds; the drawnig money is helping, though.

And you wouldn't believe the number of hi-res art files working on this strip generates. 200 gigs will last me a couple of weeks.

Mostly, though, I wanted that hard drive because it comes with the super-fast cache, which is a good thing if you're running photoshop.

My old computers have two drives named "Neil" and "Bob", of course. But I'm open to suggestions for the new machine.

Whoever submits the best idea will win a free candy bar (you can claim your candy bar at Comic-con).

Congratulations, you must be living it now!

Six years of goats, a new computer, and an old school NES for your big tv... do you think you'll still be able to slum it with us common folk?

Of course. A new computer doesn't mean I'll have a life, or social skills, or anything like that.

In fact, a new computer like that usually leads to even less of a life and fewer social skills. Tell Amy I'd be happy to trade "neglected wife" stories... I think there might even be a support group.

Yes, I can commiserate with you...just two months ago when we got married, Jon said I was "his best toy ever" and now I think I've been upshafted by both the a vintage Nintendo system that he bought on ebay and his new computer...

What's the wife of a geek to do, except know that there is room for many loves and many passion in the heart of her dear geek?

upshafted
umm...

Really, though. The only solution to this problem is have better toys than the geek husband. That the geek is not allowed to use.

Or your own set of obsessive and distracting hobbies such that the chances of you being around and available when the geek comes up for air (every 36 hours or so) are slim enough that he notices. This leads to self-regulating behavior.

Or at least, so my wife tells me. But maybe she just hangs around for my cooking.

Exactly - or go as far as I have, and agree to, nay, suggest attending a comic book convention on the 5 year anniversary of our sacred union. Ooh - if Jon is going, you should meet up with me there and we can go drink beer. :)

This could be the start of a whole bunch of goats related support groups, just think about it:

goats: the social skills clinic
goats: i'm the wife of an uber-geek support group
goats: the 12 step

The possibilities are enless!
