New Store, Old Designs, Prints and Original Art

Wednesday, October 06, 2004 - 08:17 AM

UPDATE: PayPal was having some problems yesterday, but they seem to have been resolved now. If you were trying to place an order, feel free to try again now. Argh.

We've outgrown our old store setup, so Phillip has been working on a new one that will grow with us as we add more designs and options for you folks. It may look a lot the same at first, but the back-end that drives this behemoth is entirely dynamic, database-driven, and allows us to do a few new tricks.

For example, our new t-shirts homepage is vastly simplified and allows us to display more designs in a compact area, reducing the need for annoying scrolling. Individual shirts are now displayed on their own pages instead of having to share space with other designs. We also have handy category pages design pages --> that allow you to see multiple related items at the same time.

Now that we have some breathing room, we can bring back a few old favorite designs for your purchasing pleasure:

While we were busy with all that, we've also added two new merchandise features: Prints and Original Art. You can access both of them from any page in our archives. Just look for the links that live directly beneath the strip.
  • Prints: We're now able to offer high-resolution, archival quality signed prints of any one of our strips, available in two different paper types (Enhanced Matte and Velvet Art Paper) and sizes (8.5"x11" and super-huge 13"x19"). We use archival quality paper and archival pigment inks so your print will last a good, long time (as long as you take care of it). Each print is signed by yours truly and shipped flat. I've been running tests with the prints and it's kind of flabbergasting how good these things look. Color strips are printed in color, B&W strips in black and white, etc. These make excellent presents for any Goats reader.
  • Original Art: You can now purchase the original art for any strip in our archive (first come, first served, of course). Each piece of original art also comes with an 8.5"x11" signed print of the finished strip. Available strips have a purchase link under them in our archives.
Until the end of the month, we're offering free shipping on all prints and original art.

Nice work on the print/original art options. I was going to ask what if one's been bought will the link show but checking my original shows no option to buy it. Pretty slick.

Are the original color strips colored in or b+w? I don't remember where you said you color them in, on the computer or by hand.

Thanks! The link for oringinal art for a strip disappears once it's been bought automagically.

The original art is black and white; all coloring and lettering and such is done on the computer.

That's the reason we're offering a free print with the original art -- if you want to frame it, you can have it mounted in the same frame as the print so people can see the art in the context of the finished strip.

You'll also get to see all my mistakes and screwups without the corrections made after the scan.

Damn great job you and Philip have done. Now if I can just make sure that my favorite strip(s) is(are)n't bought untill I have the funds to spare on them, everything will be (mostly) perfect.

I concur on the great idea. However, I noticed that the strip I bought (during the most recent donation drive) still reads as available ... are you still going through the records?

Jon's record keeping was somewhat difficult to decipher. I thought I had marked them all as read. Email us (or post here) which strip that was, and we can add that to the unavailable list.

If poop bought a strip alone in the woods, would it make a smell?

I'm sure there's a zombie joke in here, too.

I'm having a problem with the T-Shirts page. It looks like this [theinsaneasylum.com] for me.

It's on IE6. If nobody else is having problems, it could just be me. I installed and then uninstalled SP2, and that causes IE to crash a lot, so it seems logical that there might be other problems with the browser.

It's not just you.

I see the same crud in IE6. Even if I try and force-reload the CSS. And it seems to only be the t-shirts page, bags and hoodies works fine.

I see it too. The height of the images is being defined improperly. Hopefully phillip will be able to fix it soon.

Thanks for the heads-up.

It should be marked as sold now. If anyone else has a strip that's already been sold, let me know and we'll remove it from the site.

Thanks!

Jon,
Just curious, do you have the "Fear and Loathing" strips in color like from the back of the old Cafe Express shirt? Not that I can afford to buy anything yet...

Nah, I don't think I still have those files. I recently colored one panel of one of 'em for another project, but that's not enough to offer a color version of the print. B&W only, I regret to inform you.
