Ebba Meabh Karlsson

Saturday, March 26, 2005 - 03:00 PM

At 5:52am on Thursday, March 24th, Ebba Meabh Karlsson was born.

Phillip says: Weighing in at 8 lbs 15 oz (4.05 kg), and with a length of 22 in (56 cm) we're fairly confident that she is not only our first child to date, but also our largest thus far.

Both Lauren and Ebba are doing well and are in good spirits.

Phillip and Lauren, what a great gift you've received. Ebba looks very healthy and I hope Mommy is doing ok.

But, may I be the first to say Ebba looks a bit like ....well, kinda like.... toothgnip. Maybe its just the lighting...

Either way, I see a new character coming...

Ok - in all seriousness, my son just turned 1, and I will tell you this is going to be one of the best years of your life! Congrats!

Only Phillip would attempt to instruct his brand new daughter on what is edible and what is not [goats.com], when she is likely less than a few hours old, and barely knows what "light" is, much less how to read.

Granted, I admit. This is Phillip's daughter.

She could already be solving The Yang-Mills Theorem [claymath.org].

Also, SCIENCE! [goats.com].

Woo! Baby! Good job. Very cute-like. :) May you have lots of good times together.
Also, you should try not to hang her out of a balcony like MJ.
It's not good for them.

Ebba
Origin: Germanic/Anglo-Saxon
Meaning: strength, return of the tide

The Irish name Méabh means "intoxicating". Sooo... "intoxicating strength". Coincidence? I think not. Excellent choice :-) I've never heard of the name Ebba before but it's a very nice sounding name.

"Tá áthas an domhain orm... agus tá an babaí go hálainn."

'Babaí" is safer than bábóg. While Phillip technically 'made' her (with some help), I don't think it involved any glue or plastic. Of course, if she is already walking then she'll have technically ceased to be a babaí and will have been elevated to 'leanbh' - the supreme class of Scandinavian infant-warrior. This will necessitate some form of ceremonial hat and staff.

Also, I guess that is Ebba's first "Poop!"

Wow, a baby. Congrats to both a you. And I dunno about anyone else, but going through and reading the older comics on the site, looking at phillip as he was, and knowing now that he has to, at least in some sense, be a responsible adult, it almost makes them seem...i dunno...odder some how...I know I'm not makaing much sense here, maybe it's just me. but read some of the older comics and keep Phillip's new position in mind, see if you notice it too..

Yay Phillip and Lauren! That's really exciting--congrats. And very thoughtful of Phillip to wear a shirt with instructions on it to hold her. If she has an innate ability to read, she'll know not to eat the shirt. And if she can't read yet, then she'll probably still figure out that she shouldn't eat the shirt.

Might Ebba make any appearances in the strip, or are newborns considered inapprpriate comic material?
