Available At Stores Everywhere. Really.

Monday, February 03, 2003 - 01:22 PM

This is one of those things that we've been working towards for years, but secretly suspected that it would never happen. So I'm about as surprised as you are that Goats paperback books are now available at finer comic book shops everywhere.

I should clarify.

Back in August, we met (read: stalked) the fine folks from Cold Cut Distribution at the San Diego Comic-Con. After much begging and prostration on our parts, they generously agreed to carry our titles. The "Cold Cut Prime" Wholesale Catalog for 2003 now features our books.

If you have the catalog, you can turn to page 9, in the "Not Available From Diamond" section, and see the folowing blurb accompanied by a picture of one of the volumes:

One of the earliest online comic strips is now available in graphic novel format. With an original and satirical look at such wide-ranging topics as single living, animal rights, alien invasions, and sexual dysfunction, Goats is not afraid to take a poke at anyone or anything. Recommended for fans of "Get Fuzzy" or "Bloom County". For more information, visit www.goats.com.

Ordering info for both volumes (Evil Chickens Don't Kiss: Goats Volume III and Behold The Power Of Ignorance: Goats Volume IV) is also on page 29, under Goats (as a publisher) in the "Trade Paperbacks" section, and in the full price list on page 80.

Why are we telling you all this? Because we need your help. While the book is available, comic shops won't stock the title unless there's a demand for it. So, if you would be so kind, please visit your local comic shop and ask the kind store manager to order you a copy of one of our books through the Cold Cut 2003 catalog.

Why should you order the book through your local comic book store instead of buying it here on the Goats website? Mostly because it's a great way to help support us and help us make inroads with retailers, and to show the Cold Cut folks that they made a good decision by agreeing to carry us. Also, retailers will be more likely to order additional copies for display in their store if they know that there's an eager fanbase out there waiting to purchase them. Copies on display means new readers will discover us, which is a Very Good Thing.

So, please, call or visit your local comic book shop and ask them to order you a copy of one of our books. Thanks!

I'm going to ask first... do you mind myself (and hopefully others) reposting this post in other places? I don't want to swipe your words without your permission, but I figured I have a few places my friends read that don't read here...

So, I already possess one copy of BtPoI, and two copies of ECDK (yay super-preemie care package; the spare will likely go to a friend). When can we expect to see another volume, so that I can go to a comic store and request that they order that book, as opposed to a book that I already own?

The next volume is going to take a while to put together, as many of the early strips were not scanned in at print resolution. I wouldn't expect to see anything until, say, August. Maybe.

Will the books be available in these fine stores in both paperback and hardback format?

Not that it really matters, as it will be filled with Goat-like goodness in either case.

Just paperback -- the hardcovers need the kind of special, loving care that ony we can give them.

And there aren't enough of them printed to make it worthwhile to do distribution for them. We only print 200 of each, and we only have a handful of Volume IV left, for example.

Hm. So not soon enough that it'll likely make a difference to this catalog... Sigh.

Ah well... I will humbly await orders to go order the next book. Or possibly arrogantly await orders. Yeah, that sounds like more fun.

Gimme them damn orders, you!

Damn Jon I am impressed, you never miss an oportunity and thosed damn plugs are so subtle they are almost subliminal, (I wonder if that counts as almost criminal) anyway you get points for that two in fact I may have to start keeping a tally, btw points are good not to be confused with genius points.

Well, I just found out that my local comic store (Dreamhaven, for anyone in the Twin Cities area) can and will order the Goats books.

As soon as I have some money to spend frivolously, I will be sure to have them order Volume IV.
