A Change in Schedule

Sunday, January 04, 2009 - 05:25 PM

Howdy folks! Welcome to 2009. I think this is going to be a banner year for Goats, there's lots of excitement about the upcoming book release (files are already off to the publisher, thanks for asking) and I'm excited to write and draw the next few storylines.

Sometimes I get a bit too excited about the drawing and writing and inking and coloring and book-producing and customer support and threats of violence that I forget about other important things, like my wife and child and showering and eating.

It has been brought to my attention that a constant schedule of 18-hour days may not be healthy after a year or two, and that I should probably dial it back a bit. So I'm going to cut the strip's schedule to three days a week, Monday-Wednesday-Friday.
This was a tough decision to make but I've given it a few months of thought and it's the only real option that will give me more time with my family and allow me to maintain the same level of quality in the strip. I plan to revisit my schedule once all the book production is done and see if I can bump it back up but I guess we'll see how it goes.

Anyhow, thanks for your understanding and please don't hit me.

I always assumed that goats updated MWF anyway, since I just use my RSS reader and I live in a completely different time zone.

I think you should change you schedule to Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday so that you update on days that no one else does!

well i can't say i won't miss my four goats a week, but i'd much rather see you cut back than burn out. gotta take care of your health and family first.

we lived on three goats a week before, we can do it again. we are strong.

Dammit, now that you're on the same days as CAD, PA, XKCD, I'm actually going to have to be productive on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

On the other hand, it does mean there will be a new strip to read when I groggily accidentally connect to goats.com every Friday.

I never got comfortable with Goat-less Fridays. Thank you for returning to my comfort zone!

Wait, if memory serves, didn't we bribe you into increasing the schedule during a fund drive? I want a refund!

(OK, I did not actually give money, but if you want to give me money that's still fine.)

Yes, however: a) that was several years ago, well outside the statute of limitations and 2)current strips are twice as large (and in color), the equivalent of six old-style days per week if I were to split them up into single row comics (which I would rather not do, for reasons of pacing and timing).

If anyone is truly upset about this please email me and I'll do my best to soothe your fevered brow.

You are right. 18 hour days is NOT healthy. Good for you for scaling back. I am new to Goats, but I know someone who would LOVE it, which is why I'm here taking a look around. :)
