Monsters are very popular in the art schools these days.

I was about to enter elementary school around the time Elvis died; the media blitz made me aware of his death, but i had no personal feelings about the matter. The caption on your art could be going right over my head.

I do love certain artwork involving butterflies [jaral.org], snakes [jaral.org], and people [jaral.org] of other worlds, although i'm not exactly sure why i adore Stevee [stevee.com] Postman's creations so much.

Your art is strange, and i mean that in a good way. Exotic? Perhaps.

I will admit, it is themed somewhat similarly to what some of the student artists are producing out here (Univ. of Oklahoma). Is the concept of the grotesque (is that the right term?) coming back in fashion? They seem to do a lot of people with wildly distorted features, crawly green things, and so on. Although yours seems better executed than most.

What's the size and medium you were working with?

You mentioned "sleeping with students". That's synonymous with "teaching" in art school.

I hear they prefer odd people for the nude drawing classes.

What, like freakishly tall people?

Lurch was tall, and freakish. This is not the same as freakishly tall.

From what photos I've seen (as opposed to photos I've chosen not to see), you are similarly freakish and tall, but not freakishly tall.

But at least in your case, and probably in Lurch's case as well, I mean "freakish" in a positive sense. Most of the time at least, because why choose one?

Yes, for an American of my age and gender, 189cm is quite 'tall' but i believe within 2 sigma.

I think everyone might be considered a bit freakish, as notions of what's 'outlandish' or 'unconventional' are surely quite subjective from moment to moment and probably meaningless in any other era.

fun to look at and I like the palette. Confident lines. If I had anything negative to say about it, it would be that the composition seems heavy behind the scissor guy because the flowers are so bunched compared to the butterflies. Still, good stuff.

And now, after reading the FAQ and feeling that I may be verbally assaulted for taking anything even remotely serious, I must use this opportunity to admit that my reason for posting here was indeed shallow and self serving: I want to shamelessly plug my comic strip [runninginthehalls.com] but that thread has apparently been locked. As I don't have enough karma to create a completely self-serving thread, I must apologize for using yours like... like... well, hell, I've never been good at similes anyway.

I do like what's-his-name's avatar with the butt as I am a butt and leg man (yes I do realize I just provided fodder) and as this is the first time I've been to this site, I have to say that I greatly appreciate the sense of humor that seems to be a priority here. Looking forward to reading and posting.

Oi.

First off, I'd say that you're totally within your rights to post this here. It's the only open thread, and it's in the blatant self-promotion section. So you're self-promoting! And you commented on Kronz's work too, which is classy.

So welcome! As for your comic, I like it, and I'm curious to see where you'll take it. Out of curiosity, do you work in a school?

One question: Are you scanning the comic? The more recent few are a bit harder to read, and it seems like it may not have scanned/copied all that well.
